Building Schools

The importance of building schools:
The approximately 1,489 displaced persons camps in northern Syria, home to 1.6 million people, including more than 680,000 children, are suffering from worsening conditions in the education sector due to the increase in the number of children within the school age and the lack of adequate educational centers and schools for these children, in addition to the lack of support allocated to the sector.

The absence of a school in a particular camp or a specific area is considered one of the most prominent problems, as 1127 camps or sites for the displaced do not have schools.

Regarding the structure of schools in the camps, 19% of them were prefabricated rooms or caravans, while 14% of the schools were concrete rooms with a concrete roof, 6% concrete rooms with zinc roofing, 4% concrete rooms covered with rain insulation, while 10% were proper school buildings, and 8% were large halls, etc.

Which calls for all of us to make every effort to combat the ignorance of children and support the educational process.

A glimpse of the school building projects by Wifak Humanitarian Association:
Wifak Humanitarian Association has worked on building several schools, the most prominent of which are:
1- Mula’im Tekin School in Al-Andalus camp in the village of Hizra:
- The school consists of 12 classrooms and two administrative halls, as well as a courtyard and facilities, opening its doors to no less than 1,000 students split over two shifts.
2- Al-Akram School in Hitemlat camp:
Al-Akram School in Hitemlat camp is one of the schools that opened its doors to the children of Al-Kaiba camp at the beginning of the 2022-2023 academic year, to benefit approximately 1,000 students split over two shifts.

The school was built to consist of two floors with a total of 13 classrooms, each classroom being (7*5) meters, 3 administrative halls and a laboratory. The area of the two floors is approximately 882 square meters and extends over a total area of 2488 square meters.
3- Young Al-Khwarizmi School:
Wifak Humanitarian Association is working on building Young Al-Khwarizmi School to provide education in the city of Azaz, specifically in the Al-Ansar neighborhood, which includes a large number of displaced people, which makes it impossible for schools in the neighborhood to accommodate students.

The foundation stone of Young Al-Khwarizmi School was laid at the beginning of 2023, and the association aims to finish it in order to open its doors to students by the beginning of the new academic year.

The school consists of 13 classrooms, 3 administrative halls, a laboratory, a garden, and a courtyard that includes two playgrounds.
